I started the hansigurumi seahorse.  I expected to be super frustrated, owing to my being out of sync with my knitting. My skillz, they are lacking.  I was pleasantly surprised: the directions are sublime!  I finished the top half last night.  I dug some old Simply Soft out of the stash, as I'd left mom's present at work. Cast on 4s, I think it's just on the verge of too tight to deal with, so I have high hopes for the fiber fill staying in.  That said, no more acrylic :P  I really need the sproing of wool. Cotton versions for Alex, wool versions for the adults (who are less likely to chew on them, but, one never knows...)

Also, as a companion to the new aquatic theme in both toy and blog, I bring you a monkey, confused by the seaweed on his sushi (it was just a California Roll)

Cast on!  My mother was in town this weekend and bought me the latest Interweave Knits, and I felt it my duty to cast on the spiral boots socks.  While I realize that this yarn is not meant for such a gorgeous lace pattern, it is meant for testing and frogging :)  I've just started the calf spiral; it's been pretty easy going thus far.  If this turns out well (minus a few mistakes I now know how to correct), I can justify purchasing nice yarn and making a gift pair :)

This yarn is destined to be Knitty's Queen of Cups  -  MissHell is the greatest.  Aw yeah!

And, the horribly horribly blue/brown acrylic socks are 4" into the leg.  Whee!   I am a sock fiend already, and I haven't even finshed a whole one!

Yay for progress!  I suspect I'll do what I always do: use my first copy of the pattern as my swatch (one day, I will swatch for real).  Instead of 7-8" in length, I'm gonna cut this to 4 - maybe 3" (I have extras of this yarn speifically for this reason: to fudge version 1, and then forge ahead the right way after).   I really want to get to the business of heel flaps and gussets. This is the "scary" bit of socks, right?  Then, once I finish my mini-sock, I will pick up the nice Cascade superwash Sassy Stripes and do a pair for real.  I'll probably also cast on a pair of toe-up socks in some fun synthetic stuff I have that had a project, but well... frog-time, let us just say.  I'm feeling good about this whole sock thing.  If all is going well, I'll make myself some Dobby socks or something for OotP, and most likely add socks into my holiday gifting arsenal of patterns (list of gifts in progress). 


Then again, last year and the year before I did this: made grand plans to make gifts for people.  2005 saw laziness and a lack of vehicle impeding our goal.  2006 saw pregnancy, hormones and general bleh health to blame.  This year, well... Alex is not fond of allowing me vast amounts of "me" time, but then, I didn't have a child thinking it would up my alone-time quotient, eh? :) 

Okey dokey.  A few more rounds, and it's heel flap time!  Then a nap.  Yes... blessed nap time.
