Needs to be sewn together and lined, but at least this is done in time for mom's birthday!!! YAY! Finishing the purse by tomorrow, I hope. Speaking of which, I'd best get to it!

Set? Wha? Yeah... I decided to add in a little make-up bag to "make up" for the lateness of the gift :D

I'm posting these images as I'm fairly certain my Mom doesn't actually read my knitting blog. So, the little make-up purse comes from ther latest Classic Elite Newsletter, and it's called the Sundance Make Up Bag. (I was the first project on Ravelry - woooo!) I'm into the decorative gusset now; this is a super-speedy knit! I plan on lining it with the same fabric I choose to line the Square Cake I'm making from the same yarn. See? Matching set!

Because, did I need this (Miss Babs.. mmmm)? No... no, I really didn't. Nor did I need the skein of Marianne Dashwood I bought, or the 6 colors of Berkshire I grabbed... I have more projects on the needles than any one knitter should, and a pending wage garnisment for student loans... and a dead Volvo.

Yet, there reaches a point of being broke where you say to yourself, I need $25,000; how is another $20 going to hurt me?

Bottom of the Bag

:: sigh :: Progress on the Square Cake for mom has stalled. BUT I got my replacement needles yesterday, so I have high hopes! Then I have to make one for my neighbor, and then my friend Les wants one in green... so I bought Shepard Sport in Envy (because the Marianne Dashwood? she is MINE).

I debated whether or not to get a sewing machine, as I'm looking into making hand bags for fun and profit... in the end, I got a hand held and figured that if I'm a good girl and make enough things where the hand held no longer cuts the mustard, then and only then can I justify buying a sewing machine... and having to clean up the spare bedroom to make space for my craftiness.

T - 19 days until Mother's Day ... and I am uninspired by ANY of the projects I've tried to start. ;__;

What does this mean? It means I need to find a pattern that would take me 2-3 days to complete if I had the time to devote to it. So.. I'm seriously considering frogging the wrap one last time and making a Square Cake out of the Bamboo.

Pros:

It will take less time to knit than a wrap and thereby give me more wiggle room on the deadline.
I can still use the Bamboo; I'll just need to either go down to 4s and live with a slightly smaller purse or double the yarn.
Mom will probably use a purse more than she'd wear a wrap; I just wanted to impress her.

Cons:

I'll have to sew in a lining. I can avoid seams if I do a provisional cast on and then 3-needle bind the bottom.
This will be my 3rd attempt at a project for mom.
Did I mention the sewing yet?

:: sigh :: Time to frog away and bust out my 5s and see where this goes. Luckily, Bamboo holds well to frogging and I cast on these projects from 2 different skeins of the 3 I purchased, so that I excessive frogging wouldn't wound the yarn.
