Also, as a companion to the new aquatic theme in both toy and blog, I bring you a monkey, confused by the seaweed on his sushi (it was just a California Roll)
Yet, there reaches a point of being broke where you say to yourself, I need $25,000; how is another $20 going to hurt me?
:: sigh :: Progress on the Square Cake for mom has stalled. BUT I got my replacement needles yesterday, so I have high hopes! Then I have to make one for my neighbor, and then my friend Les wants one in green... so I bought Shepard Sport in Envy (because the Marianne Dashwood? she is MINE).
I debated whether or not to get a sewing machine, as I'm looking into making hand bags for fun and profit... in the end, I got a hand held and figured that if I'm a good girl and make enough things where the hand held no longer cuts the mustard, then and only then can I justify buying a sewing machine... and having to clean up the spare bedroom to make space for my craftiness.
T - 19 days until Mother's Day ... and I am uninspired by ANY of the projects I've tried to start. ;__;
What does this mean? It means I need to find a pattern that would take me 2-3 days to complete if I had the time to devote to it. So.. I'm seriously considering frogging the wrap one last time and making a Square Cake out of the Bamboo.
Pros:
- It will take less time to knit than a wrap and thereby give me more wiggle room on the deadline.
- I can still use the Bamboo; I'll just need to either go down to 4s and live with a slightly smaller purse or double the yarn.
- Mom will probably use a purse more than she'd wear a wrap; I just wanted to impress her.
- I'll have to sew in a lining. I can avoid seams if I do a provisional cast on and then 3-needle bind the bottom.
- This will be my 3rd attempt at a project for mom.
- Did I mention the sewing yet?
:: sigh :: Time to frog away and bust out my 5s and see where this goes. Luckily, Bamboo holds well to frogging and I cast on these projects from 2 different skeins of the 3 I purchased, so that I excessive frogging wouldn't wound the yarn.
So, I've finished my Dashings for me - woohoo! They are a hit around the office; everyone wants a pair now. And speaking of everyone wants some: I have just received my very first ever knitting commission! An order for 3 pairs of fingerless gloves (pattern by .. me!!) has been placed. Cash moolah in the account forthcoming. I figured since it's through friends of my mom through her church, I placed the yarn order on good faith. I placed my very first order with KPixie. Hopefully, the yarn will come soon and I can whip out a few pairs of simple yet beautiful gloves. Yay for me for a commission!!
While I await yarn for the commission, I started my sister's present, and I like! Man, now I have to use that pattern for me. Also, I have to rip back my stepdad's present and cast on a new one, because Knucks? Too gappy for me to learn how to fiddle with on such a short deadline. And, being who I am, I can't give someone a half-assed present. So, new gift for Bruce it shall be.
And... I'm staring at this skein of yarn that I bought on a whim like 6 months ago. It started life as an attempt at a pair of Ampersand socks... but has since been frogged. The yarn is GORGEOUS! and begs to be crafted into something. But what? A pair of Fetchings? I feel like gloves are a good idea, but I don't believe in anything but fingerless mitts right now (time constraints). Maybe I can come up with some sort of fun and funky pattern of my own. I'm thinking ... maybe a modified Oblique Rib with an afterthought thumb? Hmm. I must needs stitch dictionaries now!!! Or, maybe a modified Fawkes? Afterthought or gusset? Decisions, decisions, decisions... maybe I should finish the stuff I'm already working on first, eh?
As I gaze upon the gifts I'm making / want to make / pile of hats from last year's KnitStravaGanza in the hospital, I realize something fundamental: where in the **** are MY items? Sure, I have a hat for every mood (most are too small - I had sizing issues), but my hands are cold! So, I have decided to put allllllll other knitting on hiatus and make me a prezzie! I mean, heck! It's my birthday on the 29th, and I want something! Alas, I am broke, so although some swanky cashmerino armwarmers would be just the ticket... I dug around in the old stash cabinet (which needs a cleaning) and located some blue WoolEase. Expensive she ain't but she'll do the job.
So, I cast on my 48 stitches and did an inch of K1P1 ribbing. I decided on using the stitch pattern from the Pomatomus, because it's awfully pretty. I went to launch into the lace, only to realize... I should've don P1K1. Blarg. I slipped a stitch and carried on.
I am now done with the first 4 rows of the last pattern, using 4 repeats per round. I'm just basically doing a tube with an after-thought thumb. I'd fling in a photo, but slightly less than 2" of a pattern you can't make out... hardly seems worth any of our time, eh?
*squeeeee*
This yarn is destined to be Knitty's Queen of Cups - MissHell is the greatest. Aw yeah!
And, the horribly horribly blue/brown acrylic socks are 4" into the leg. Whee! I am a sock fiend already, and I haven't even finshed a whole one!
*sigh* We're too broke for me to buy myself what I want for Mother's Day: some totally swank superwash merino midweight sock yarn in this gorgeous colorway!!! *sob* It would make these socks that I wanna make (even though I'm probably not good enough yet) look smashing!
OK. No more whining. Back to the hideous blue and brown acrylic socks.
