I am in love with cowls! Every knitter has their favorite thing to make, and this is now mine! I've already cast on a second cowl, this time using the Nutkin sock stitch pattern in Miss Bab's Cleopatra.I figured the turns in the stitch pattern will work ok with the striping / pooling that's going on. If not, I'll just call it an experiment and keep it for myself.
I've become very inspired by the cowl, and have some fun ones planned. (Gee, I wonder what everyone is getting for Christmas this year?) We'll see how long this fad lasts with me. I do tend to get bored easily, which is why I have only one new cowl on the needles instead of all 5 that I want to make. I have two skeins of Shubui Sock in Earth, a skein of Shimmer in Galaxy, two skeins of Yarn Love Elizabeth Bennet in Friendship and a Marianne Dashwood in Secret Garden, and a skein of Bamboo in Red Jester that are all screaming MAKE ME INTO SOMETHING!
So, I've finished my Dashings for me - woohoo! They are a hit around the office; everyone wants a pair now. And speaking of everyone wants some: I have just received my very first ever knitting commission! An order for 3 pairs of fingerless gloves (pattern by .. me!!) has been placed. Cash moolah in the account forthcoming. I figured since it's through friends of my mom through her church, I placed the yarn order on good faith. I placed my very first order with KPixie. Hopefully, the yarn will come soon and I can whip out a few pairs of simple yet beautiful gloves. Yay for me for a commission!!
While I await yarn for the commission, I started my sister's present, and I like! Man, now I have to use that pattern for me. Also, I have to rip back my stepdad's present and cast on a new one, because Knucks? Too gappy for me to learn how to fiddle with on such a short deadline. And, being who I am, I can't give someone a half-assed present. So, new gift for Bruce it shall be.
And... I'm staring at this skein of yarn that I bought on a whim like 6 months ago. It started life as an attempt at a pair of Ampersand socks... but has since been frogged. The yarn is GORGEOUS! and begs to be crafted into something. But what? A pair of Fetchings? I feel like gloves are a good idea, but I don't believe in anything but fingerless mitts right now (time constraints). Maybe I can come up with some sort of fun and funky pattern of my own. I'm thinking ... maybe a modified Oblique Rib with an afterthought thumb? Hmm. I must needs stitch dictionaries now!!! Or, maybe a modified Fawkes? Afterthought or gusset? Decisions, decisions, decisions... maybe I should finish the stuff I'm already working on first, eh?
I got this fabulous hand painted yarn from a seller on eBay, and boy howdy! Is it even more gorgeous in person! I decided it was time to cast on a pair of socks that was not destined for frogging. So, I chose the Ampersand socks pattern from Through the Loops because it looked nice, but not mortifyingly complicated.
So far, I could not be more pleased. I've turned the heel and am doing up the gusset now. I cast these on about 7 PM Thursday, and have only been able to sporadically work them
I do recommend not using DPNs. The pattern calls for 2 circulars (which I just don't have), and although I'm doing alright on the DPNS, it would be less... bunchy? if I had the circulars.Still, it's progressing pretty nicely. I think this pair will be for my sister-in-law. I also ordered some elann Esprit to test a pattern for my mom (she's allergic to almost everything that every came off of an animal). Fun. Hopefully it works on the US4s I plan to use it on.
My Socks that Rock is here! I can smell the vinegar... mmmmmmm...
But, I don't own a swift or a ball winder :( I am going to beg Rob for an hour of free-time tonight so I an prop yarn on random dowels or something to wind it by hand.
Please tell me that at some point in the next year my son will develope a sleeping pattern? Oi, but I'm tired and reallllllllly in need of some knitting time (haven't worked the needles in almost a week - eeeep!)
*squeeeee*
This yarn is destined to be Knitty's Queen of Cups - MissHell is the greatest. Aw yeah!
And, the horribly horribly blue/brown acrylic socks are 4" into the leg. Whee! I am a sock fiend already, and I haven't even finshed a whole one!
